Intent of the Project: The idea of this portrait project is to represent a wide and diverse range of STL music makers with high style portrait, while also
Details: The name of the project, Coordinates, comes from the idea of photographers capturing photos from the same spot at a given location…think longitudinal coordinates. Essentially, I am interested in seeing what results when 2 people create images from the exact same space. With 360 degrees of potential background or subject material, as well as the option of various lens lengths, the use of film or digital rigs, color Vs monochromatic frames…the possibilities are endless and lends to a foundation of great potential when it comes to examining the idea of perspective, as it relates to photography. For instance, while you may be focusing on the broken window on the top floor of the building across the street, I may be focusing on the person bent over tying their shoe before crossing the intersection, ya know!
So, what are you on the hook for: Not much really! A bit of time in one of your days in the next 2-9 months, a willingness to be involved in a group project, and choosing a few locations to shoot at in your area. That’s it! I’ll travel to you for the shoot. Or will meet you Oh! also, I’ll bring some random 35mm and 120mm film rolls if you’d like to use them so you’re not out of pocket if you opt for an analog approach.

There is a form below that takes a quick second to fill outMy email is beforetheblink@gmail.com and my cell is 510.406.8538 . I’m happy to talk anything through or rap a bit more about it if you want additional info. And if you want to be involved, we can start figuring a time to get together. The goal is to have all of the images captured sometime between the end of this month and the end of October, 2024…this will allow you to think of specific images, themes, or locations you may want to focus on, and also provides provides options for different seasons, should that factor in to your planning.
Truly, thank you for considering; your work has often stuck in my head and I’m humbled and honored to have the opportunity to try and create a collaborative body of work featuring top-shelf image makers who all have an incredible visual voice. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully spending a day shooting together in the coming months! Stay Creative. -Nate Burrell
